Chiropractic Care during pregnacy
Pregnancy brings many physical changes as your body adapts to support your growing baby. Changes in posture, ligament, weight distribution and movement can place additional stress on the lower back, pelvis and surrounding muscles, which may contribute to discomfort throughout pregnancy.
Common concerns during pregnancy can include:
-
Lower back pain
-
Pelvic and hip discomfort
-
Sacroiliac joint pain
-
Muscle tension and stiffness
-
Changes in posture and movement
Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
At Back and Beyond Chiropractic, we take a gentle and individualised approach to care during pregnancy. We assess your posture, spinal and pelvic movement, and areas of muscular tension to understand your individual needs.
Where appropriate, chiropractic care may help manage common musculoskeletal discomfort during pregnancy and support comfortable movement as your body changes. Techniques can be modified throughout pregnancy to suit your stage of pregnancy and individual presentation. We also use a specially designed pregnancy pillow that provides support around the abdomen, allowing pregnant patient to lie comfortably during treatment. Also, one of our chiropractor, Dr. Scott uses Knee-chest table for specific Gonstead adjustment.
What about after birth?
Postnatal care is just as important as care during pregnancy. Pregnancy and childbirth place significant physical demands on the body, and your posture, movement patterns and spinal and pelvic function can continue to change after birth.
The demands of caring for a newborn, including feeding, carrying and prolonged sitting, can also contribute to neck, shoulder and back discomfort.
